Photo-Story: What the Water Gave Me

By Nicole Gencarelli
This photo series is another experiment in 35mm film, and I'm very happy with how these prints turned out! Working with film has been a very long learning process, and I'm excited to keep on learning how to handle the medium and experiment with using it in my other series of fine art work in fibers and drawing.

The inspiration for these photographs came from two different sources, personal childhood memories and a homage the famous painting by Frida Kahlo. As a child, I loved being in water and the experience of taking a bath every night.
Water itself has many symbolic purposes related to cleanness, spiritual and ritual cleaning, and purification, but my personal connection to the act of taking a bath is one of pure nostalgia and a feeling of safety and comfort.
I wanted these photos to capture the feeling of a memory related to bathwater and the bathtub itself.
