Hi everyone! I though this week I would share a bit of my side project, embroidery hoop art of animal skeletons. I started doing these during my senior year of college, when I was feeling rather frustrated and disgorged with my own art, especially my main thesis project of my senior year. I wanted to practice more with embroidery, as at the time I was just starting to consider adding that aspect into my thesis project, so I though why not come up with a side project working with embroidery to focus on with no pressure or expectations.
I've been fascinated by animal skeletons and frequently used them in past drawing and printing experiments, practices, and small pieces so I decided to make a sperm whale skeleton piece.
Since then I have created several animal skeleton pieces and plan on making more for an etsy shop. I really enjoy the process of making them and it takes time out of my more "serious" studio practice to just relax and have fun with the medium while creating something beautiful and complex.
