By Whitney Cole
My most recent venture into photographing my family and land has come in the form of Casey. She has recently begun working with my aunt on the farm, which I feel could lead me to an interesting image or two concerning the next generation of farmers on this land.
Some of the images were taken at a cattle roping event, and some were taken on the farm or our land specifically.
Apart from working to expand the Plot work, I have been doing a bit of less-serious experimentation:
I TURNED A WINDOW INTO A CAMERA OBSCURA.
By covering a window (except for a small hole) in the bedroom/dining room area and closing off all other sources of light to the room, I allowed only the light from the hole to enter the space and be seen. Once I held a piece of white paper in front of that hole, I had the joy of experiencing how magical photography must have been to its founders. The image from the other side of the street, granted upside-down, was projected onto my piece of paper. I had basically turned my room into an old school camera obscura.
While my sister wasn’t impressed unless I actually had a photographic print to show for it, I was thrilled with my tiny findings.
