This embroidered canvas project is a super fun and easy project for a rainy weekend, plus it's a great way to personalize your space! Making your own wall art is also super inexpensive. I found most of my materials at my local superstore and was able to spend less than $10 on all the materials. Also, it's a great way to surround yourself with some positive words and instant inspiration!
To start, all you need is a small, stretched, canvas (which means the back of the canvas is tight over wooden bars, and not glued directly to a tough backing). Mine were a standard 8x10, but its pretty flexible as to how big or small you want yours to be.
Next, you need to find a quote, poem, or any other inspiring text you want to use for your project. Pinterest and Tumblr are definitely great places to check out for motivating words. I suggest using Pinterest and Tumblr, or sifting through your favorite books to find your quote.
Next, chose your color scheme for your words and any other decoration or images you want to add to your canvas. You can also chose to leave your canvas white and go for a more minimal look, or you can use paints (watercolor or acrylic recommended) to make a colorful background
Lastly, layout your design and chosen quote in a light pencil sketch, then start embroidering away! It may take a little time to get used to embroidering letters if you are new to embroidery, so just make sure you give yourself plenty of room. Don’t make your letters too small or too close together. Once you are finished, hang your art up or give it to a friend or family member as unique gift.
Have fun!
