By Whitney Cole
Because the semester has just recently ended, I haven't delved into anything new as I'm still tying up loose ends with my previous (and possibly continuing) work. My best friend will soon be able to bind the latest attempt at a physical copy of my book, "Plot," which was the culmination of my BFA thesis work.
In the meantime, I shoot if I see anything particularly interesting, but during the summer much of my time is devoted to more commercial endeavors. I shoot events and weddings, so I spend much of my time editing batches of photographs for hours on end.
As a way to take break from the repetition, I work on what I call my "doodles." I have always drawn to keep my hands busy, but up until recently haven't considered it much of an official artistic talent. I upload the little things I draw and then use Illustrator to clean them up. I've started uploading them to an etsy account in an attempt to provide a bit more income for myself between jobs.
The irony of editing doodles to take a break from editing photos is that the process is just as tedious. Illustrator is also a fairly new program to me, so I'm sure I'm doing everything very superfluously.
These incredibly slight adjustments happened over the course of at least two hours of editing.
One day, when I'm old and grey, I will finish it.
One day.
